Why I am standing

Doncaster is my home.

I was born here, I live here and I work here. My family all live here too. So I know we have challenges and importantly, opportunities too. Our City is in decline. We see it. We feel it. We know it.

Labour have run this City and area for nearly 50 years. Their MPs, councillors and elected Mayor have not only caused it, they refuse to do anything about it. They sit on their hands whilst our money is spent in Sheffield. We see it. We feel it. We know it.

When I was growing up, Doncaster was a bustling town with a fantastic market where people would come from miles afar. Now the City Centre grows emptier by the week. We have become a city of empty shops, drunks and beggars. We see it. We feel it. We know it.

This cannot continue.

We cannot let it.

We cannot let our City and our way of life continue like this. Its surrounding towns and villages are often ignored too. Antisocial behaviour in village centres. Potholes on our roads. Rubbish on our streets. Fly tipping down our lanes. We See. We feel it. We know it.

But there is hope. We need a new approach, a new start and a new broom.

A new approach based on our common values of Faith, Flag and Family.

Faith based on our values of compassion, community and respect. Values that I hold as a Christian which are also the values of those of other faiths and of everyone who believes in our common way of life.

Flag based on our unity and common pride in our city, community and our country. We need to love and cherish our city, and, our towns and villages too.

Family is the cornerstone of our society. To support our children’s future. To embrace togetherness, and, strength and unity that comes from strong families in a connected community. By being good neighbours and treating our area as one big family.

 Stronger Together.

Together, we can protect and support our way of life in the towns and villages.

Together, we can rebuild our city. To be the beacon of South Yorkshire again.

To be somewhere we proudly boast of being from.

To be the place we once were again.

I, with you, will Make Doncaster Great Again!

Yours sincerely

Nick Fletcher

Conservative Party Mayoral Candidate for Doncaster
