AIRPORT ISSUES.
AIRSPACE. I need to address recent discussions regarding the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the petition that has been championed by certain senior Labour MPs, including those in the House of Lords. It is important to clarify that the CAA operates as an independent body.
Labour elected members’ role in this petition has been, at best, disingenuous and, at worst, a deliberately misleading clickbait exercise. This kind of behaviour distracts from the real issues at hand.
The airspace has been lost because they allowed Peel to hand it back and now Cyrrus seemingly believe that it is just a case of asking for the old airspace back.
CAA have repeatedly advised them to make a new application with their operator and that restoration of the old airspace requires a lot of remedial work and that the airspace is not efficient. In other words what we require as airspace as they believe it will take years to regenerate the business needed.
FUNDING. Secondly , I want to stress that if the airport is funded solely by Doncaster, it will leave no resources available for other critical projects and services in our community. The airport must open as a vital asset for our region, but it is essential that all stakeholders, including those from South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, contribute fairly.
It is worth noting that the newly elected Labour MP for Bassetlaw recently attended an event to welcome a plane, milking the publicity whilst shirking the financial responsibilities that come with it. If they wish to share in the glory, it is only right that they must also share in the funding.
WAY FORWARD. Let’s work together to ensure that the airport's success benefits all, and that funding is equitably distributed among all those who stand to gain from its operation.
