Since becoming the Member of Parliament for Don Valley, I have continuously campaigned for the town of Doncaster to get a new hospital. Currently, the hospital which serves the town, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, is no longer fit for purpose and is a reminder to people in the borough that their area is very much left behind. With the Government committed to ‘Building Back Better’ and levelling up the North as we recover from the coronavirus pandemic this year, it is essential that the people of Doncaster and the staff at DRI are given a renewed sense of optimism. A new hospital would bring jobs and investment to the area, tackle the major health inequalities which exist in the borough, increase footfall on the high street and accommodate for a re-energised industrious spirit to emerge.
Within this proposal, my new initiative ‘New You, New Hospital’ and its new website is also discussed. The initiative will seek to encourage people in Doncaster to make positive lifestyle choices and therefore ease the burden on their local health services. The link to the initiative can be found by clicking here. Along with a website, this initiative will also have its own app, where people can earn points for taking up exercise or quitting smoking. The app is expected to be launched after the country comes out of lockdown.
This town desperately needs a new hospital, and I hope after reading this, you too will recognise the reasons why and the potential that a new hospital would bring. Let’s Build Back Better – starting in Doncaster.
