Following the debate on including suicide prevention lessons in the national curriculum in the House of Commons on Monday 13 March 2023, Nick Fletcher MP (Don Valley) praised the 3 Dads Walking, who are three fathers who lost their daughters to suicide and who have led the campaign.
Nick has been working with Andy Airey, Mike Palmer and Tim Owen - known as the 3 Dads Walking – after they secured a Parliamentary debate due to 150,000 people having signed a petition backing their call. Nick led the debate in the House of Commons.
The three dads have also raised over £1 million for the suicide prevention charity, Papyrus.

Speaking after the debate, Nick Fletcher MP, said. “I would like to pay tribute to these three brave dads. As well as the money they raised, their success in raising awareness of a subject that is sadly affecting so many families has been vital.
“Whilst they have suffered their individual tragic loss, they have done so much to help other families and young people, all to stop the single biggest killer of our young people. Better information and more support on this is really needed for our young people and also for parents and teachers too. The Government has already said suicide prevention would be a key priority for future changes to what is taught in schools in this area which I welcome. There is still much more to do though and thanks to 3 Dads walking we are heading in the right direction.”
