Many constituents have contacted me regarding yesterday's vote on new Covid-19 legislation to combat the Omicron variant.
Before yesterday's vote, I believed it was best to hear all the facts from local professionals, frontline NHS staff and colleagues before I made my decision.
I also believe that when it comes to a decision like this, MPs should listen to the full debate and take part where possible. I therefore spent four hours in the chamber before giving my speech and taking the difficult decision to vote with the Government.
Many colleagues voted against the Government and I truly hope my decision to vote for these new measures to combat this new strain will be proven to be unnecessary when they are due to be voted on again next month. However, at present, little is known of this variant other than it spreads incredibly rapidly.
I therefore believe that these measures will not only help keep us safe but also enable us to have an enjoyable Christmas.
Lastly, it should be stressed that despite some disagreements between Parliamentary colleagues on this approach, we are all united in one message - get vaccinated!
